Sorry, I'm sure reasons for this must have been covered before but I cant find the topics
New engine, was running yesterday, left it an hour or so and then it wont start, sussed the reason - cos its lost half a tank of petrol into the exhaust. Its a phbh rubber mounted carb. Why would it do this? Never used this set up before so go easy on me

Float needle valve leaking in carb or float stuck. If it has a black tip it's possible been eaten by ethanol content in modern fuel. Red-tipped (viton) ones are better.

Yes there is a difference. PHBH type have needles matched to the valve seat size. Various valve seat sizes are available.

Make a note of the seat size. Often sold as a set of: seat, needle and fibre washer.
