hi all took engine apart with what i thought was a blown drive seal but there is so much soot on these i am wondering can anyone shed some light on it please. is this running rich, and would this cause seal failure sorry about pic's first time

that looks rich too me. but not far from right

A worn drive side seal would let oil into the crankcase anyway and it will burn all your gearbox oil so that all seems to make sense.

would that cause a seal to go done about 1500 miles ago = 15months ??
