Still playing about with my jetting on TS1, TMX 35, supertourer. With needle clip on bottom (richest) setting, plug is too light so I have put (as advised) put a tiny washer under clip to raise needle slightly. Scoot runs too rich now :? or rather the engine runs boggy but plug is a bit light still. I have noticed some splash back on my side casing of black oily gunk coming from the exhaust slip joint......what effect would this leak have on jetting? Many thanks :D

here are my old settings for when I used my supertourer with the tmx35 on my TS1 mj 315 needle 56 2nd clip which was a slight weak mid range went to mj 340 and 57 needle 2nd clip great all through the range suggest taking it to a recommended dyno operator who is not after high bhp figures I lost a couple of hp but I know its safe ;)

Cheers Roadrunnerian, I've booked her in for dyno at Chiselspeed in two weeks, so I'll just focus on sealing exhaust, checking for any leaks and then stick her in the garage until the dyno. Had enough of faffing around with it now

How many miles as your TMX done. I say this as over time,as my TMX on a TS1 got richer and richer and I ended up with a 58 needle on 2nd clip and a 17.5 pilot. Did plug chops and colour was OK through rev range and did 2 coast to coast with this setting. However, in reality, I was compensating for the needles and fixed atomiser wearing with use.

So for this years Euro rally, and after talking to Andy Francis, I went back to the recommended 20 pilot and 56 needle on 2 clip. Really boggy between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle, in fact it was hard work getting through those revs. But after 1/2 throttle, ran great.

At the rally, I bought a brand new 35TMX from Andy Francis and put in the recommended setting of
22.5 pilot
310 Main jet
56 needle on 2 clip

and it ran a treat all through the rev range with a great plug colour.

Well it did run OK till I blew a hole in the piston just outside Eindhoven, but that was due to an air leak with my inlet manifold.

So the point of this story is that your Mikuni may be that worn that you are finding it difficult to get the correct setting, as I had been doing.

Carb is virtually brand new - only done a few hundred miles - it's never been set up properly yet.

Haven't seen your other thread, but have you tried a 56 needle on 2nd clip and say a 20 pilot. Lots of people came up with that combination at Euro rally and they were spot on. Only went to 22.5 pilot because of motorway cruising at low throttle positions.

Nearly the same... 300 main, 56 needle second clip from bottom, 22.5 pilot. Well, I was but I decided to check for air leaks again and sure enough there is one  on the head. I have stripped top end, thoroughly cleaned all surfaces with brake cleaner, use Threebond on the base gasket and Hydromar Blue on the head. This time I am leaving it to set over night before testing or starting. Also, is that 2nd clip from the bottom or the top???

Hi mate, blowing a hole in your piston sounds to me like your ignition timing is messy, not your carb setting.
Size matters!
