I'm fitting a new gear change which I bought from beedspeed. It's a good fit on the handlebar but neither the large bush (a brass MB one) nor the thin L shaped one fit into the gear change casting.
I was reading on the Scootrs site that their gear changes don't need the bushings as they are made to better spec than the originals.
Am wondering if the beedspeed unit I have is designed to run without shims or whether I need to take the dremel to gear change casting to make the L shaped one fit in the gear change casting and to the large brass to make that fit?

Thanks
Tippo

A picture would help - I don't understand what "bushes" you are referring to.
Did you have to do that?

I'll try and help 'Tippo'
In recent months I have used two remade gearchange units. Like you I found the large nylon bush wouldn't fit. After some headscratching i decided it wasn't required in a re-made, probably far-east, part. So in both cases I fitted them without the large nylon bush. They feel perfectly O/K and work fine.
In both cases the thin 'L' shaped shim fitted fine without any fettling.

Thanks Daggs. On mine neither the larger in my case brass bush fits nor the smaller L shaped one. Maybe I'll make the L shaped one fit so it looks correct and forget about the large one. Image

I dremelled a rebate in a ScootRS 5 speed changer so I could fit the shim but there's no rebate for the large bush to be used. It works fine with no slop.

Thanks all! I've cut a rebate for the shim and as I was at the machine shop today have had the brass bush cut down so it fits. Will see if works better with or without the bush.

Interestingly (or perhaps not) I fitted one of these gear changes yesterday and contrary to my earlier comments This time the 'L' shaped shim wouldn't fit either. I fettled it to fit, didn't bother with the big bush and it works fine..........
