just put my gearbox back in after replacing AF close ratio 1st gear all tightened down (endplate & hub) checked clearance with feeler gauges between shim and endplate and I am right on the limit of acceptable clearance ( 0.3mm ) but I can rock the gear back and forth with my fingers far more than I ever remember on any other Lambretta I have had. am I paranoid or does it need more investigating?

I'd of thought if you have 0.3 clearance between the end plate and shim the maximum movement on the loose gears will be 0.3. It shouldn't be possible to have anymore than that. That's how I understand it anyway.

lift endplate off and check how loose gears sit on layshaft on mine the gears sat 1.5 mm lower than end of shaft ........washer still sits on shaft so you can have correct clearance but gears are loose ....cause of mine is 4th gear machined wrong so all gears sit low
