Hi has anyone fitted a proper type fuel gauge to there camlam fast flow type petrol tap
is it possible and does anyone know what ohms they run at, seems the most available universal gauges are 0 ohms full to 180ohms empty I think that's how they work. how can you test the tap to see what ohms it is producing
sorry bit long winded but fancy having a proper type gauge
cheers in advance steve

I think you will find the cam lam one is a float switch that gives you a low switch to turn on a led. It does not give a resistor reading to give 3/4,1:2 1/4 full etc. I used a sender from a Kawasaki that gives 0 to 100 ohms but cannot remember what was full and empty.

Agreed CamLam one is an off / on switch.

i have a fuel gauge fitted and working, i had to fit a sender unit into the tank, and i used a fuel gauge off a triumph motorcycle i also got a matching temp gauge. there are two types of sender and fuel gauge so be careful what you buy, the easy to wire type has an earth on the sender unit and one other wire which has a variable resistace, zero when its empty and the restistance rises as the float rises in the tank, the tricky type has two resistance wires, i couldnt get that type to work, i belive one wire sends the gauge up and the other sends it down, use the simple type if your going to fit one would be my advise, great having a working gauge though, you know exactly how much fuel you have.
