Hi all, I have a never been used flywheel from MB, which I believe to be SIL ( with the boss welded by MB.) I got it along with an AC stator plate, but never fitted either. My current project is going to be DC, so my question is, could I use this flywheel, with a DC stator plate? I'm trying to use as many bits that I already have, rather than buy new. Any advice / comments, gratefully received....Pete.

Yes you can use your flywheel with a DC stator, if your trying to save money why not convert the AC stator to work as a DC one, save you about £80?

You will have a yellow wire that comes from the end of the lighting coils to the regulator, if you follow the path of the lighting coils you will see that the last one goes to earth (next to the Pick Up box). De-solder this and solder on another length of wire, feed it through the stator plate and into the sleeve with the other wires. this wire and the original yellow go to the Wassel DC regulator and that is your stator modified.

I have carried this out on one of mine and it works just as well as my BGM one and at the cost of a piece of wire. There is quite a big thread on here somewhere about doing a Wassel conversion, it really is easy to do as long as you can use a soldering iron.

Let me know how you get on. Andy

Andy is right, it's a VERY simple conversion to do AC to DC (just unsolder earth end of lighting coils and solder onto new wire) and you can even go back to AC use if you take the new wire back to earth on the frame. Very, very simple :)

Thanks guys, I have a soldering iron, solder and suitable wire. I'll give a go, what could possibly go wrong?.... :D

Is this the correct regualtor, or will a BGM do the same job?
