Gearbox choice

My gp200 gearbox is very worn due to incorrect shimming. I have a mint LI125 series 2 gearbox that I could use. This is for a TS1engine with a 46 clutch basket, I have a range of front sprockets so would be able to try different ratios so long as the main drive sprocket is 46 (I'm not shelling out for another as it is an AF 6 plate cassette clutch)

Would this work?

Or would I be better getting a new box such as an LI150 - take this as an opportunity to getter a better gearbox?

If the answer is to get an Li150, what are people's opinions on the new Indian ones from Scooter Restorations?

Thanks in advance as always :D

Read the 5th comment regarding Indian gearboxes. The Italian LI150 box would be your best option in my opinion. You can use other boxes but there are large gaps between 3rd and 4th on most of them.

Hmmm? Doesn't sound good. Having said that the GP200 boxes seem ok. Probably hit and miss as with most Indian stuff. Might keep my eye out for an Italian Li150 ;)

Tbf if it's made by SIL it's normally ok. It's the other stuff made in Indian that's normally iffy.

my first choice box would be af rayspeeds close ratio box, long 1st gear, small jump to second, small jump to third, forth is the same jump as sil 200 gearbox. perfect for a ts1 as it will keep you in the powerband when you change up. if your 4th and 3rd loose gears are ok you can buy a new close ratio xmas tree and 1st and 2nd gears and use your 3rd and 4th. your choice of front spocket will depend on how much power you have ,do you ride 2 up, do you live in a hilly area, my ts1 had a 20t front sprocket, but was tuned for torque rather than revs, realy nice to ride, probably as quick as my rb realy

I like this plan! Just had a look at Af's site and priced up the cluster and the 1 £ 2nd gears, my 3rd and 4th look ok so this is a good option :D

Would this work with my 46t ? Say - 46 x 19 ?

i had a 46 20 on my ts1, but it was very tourqey, standard porting and .5mm removed from the base of the cylinder, moves the power lower down, also used an mb inlet manifold and a 5mm spacer, with a devtour exhaust, realy easy to ride, pulled like a train, i had a 19 front sprocket on at first, it would scream flat out in top gear, to increased size to a 20, seamed perfect setup, nearly forgot i also lowered the squish to 1.25 that also improved power accross the rev range, i would try your 19 sprocket and see how you like it, but you will enjoy using a close ratio box, even downchanges are better. :D

i was gonna use the af gearbox in a rebuild i am doing the 4th gear supplied 36t is not flat all across on the bottom face [its recessesed by 1.5mm on the inner lugs] consequently the gears come below top of laysshaft so wont work ....italiain fourth gears are flat all across
been trying to contact them for 4 weeks now with no joy phone..e-mail etc etc its put me back on me build as i would have bought another 36t off them they list two but they dont want to know ..so cant take risk of ordering one ..i give up ...............................good luck if you can speak to them i have 4 more lammies to build dont think i,ll spend my hard earned with them
