new cases

getting exited with all these new casings being casted, but thinking, as you do, does anybody see any problems without having "matching" endplates?. what exactly are the two surfaces that are machined together? is it the cluster or the layshaft? or is it a case of anything will work with correct shimming? a lot of questions i know.

Modern CNC machining can ensure sufficient, repeatable, accuracy that "line boring" as in the old days is not required

That only helps if both bits are made on modern machines. Do the new cases come with endplates or do they use the wibbly wobbly old ones?
