Speedo Drive disk hub

I'm reassembling a new scootrs disk hub after having it painted. How free should the speedo drive be in its housing?
Once fitted and tightened mine can't be rotated with a finger but can be rotated if pushed with screw driver is that normal?
Seems like the casting on mine has a piece broken off where the end of the drive fits but I don't think this is affecting it?

Thanks

Try fitting the speedo drive without the housing and see if you turn it by using the shaft. If you cant the hole in the backplate will just need cleaning out.

By the way, when I assemble the disc hub I usually fit the hub into the forks and tighten the hub nuts before fitting the speedo drive.Once fitted I insert a screwdriver into the the speedo drive shaft and spin the wheel,if all is well the screwdriver will rotate as the speedo drive worm meshes with the drive fitted to the hub.

Thanks! Without the housing it rotates by the shaft although not exactly frictionless. Did a bit of dremeling and a little smoother. Will try your fitting method once forks back from painters.

Be very carefull using a dremmel. The drive is supposed to be a snug fit in the backplate,if you dremmel to much material the drive can move sideways and the worm wont mesh properly with the drive fitted to the hub.
