when I was building mine I just searched the interweb and came up with plenty of pictures of interest especially the ones from India
I opted not to do mine as straight API using f/g Italian style panels, Winter model mudguard, horncasting extensions etc - mine is a true bitsa which I love.

We drink fron the same cup, mine has dented turning mudguard, italian indian sidepanels. Only thing i want to changeis the indian steeringlock affaif. I have a pretty big gap between the top of the leggies and the headset.
Did api series 2,s have a chrome ring?

mine has a chrome (powder coated black now !) and all the ones i`ve seen have.
My steering lock is standard s2 but I had to get a longer steering lock pin made to engage in the chrome ring
SR have a API/Mac section but are low on parts now
