Hi, could anyone help me, my gp200's rear brake seems not to be working correctly. i have not mot'd it yet but the previous owner said the rear brake shoes were new, he did say the rear brake would slow the bike up but not bring it to a sharp stop. he also said that the new brakes shoes may need bedding in.obviously i have tried adjusting the cable but this just locks up the wheel. can anyone help me please.

just done mine, the top brake shoe was not making contact with the hub, think there is a problem with some pivot pins, you might have to fit a Jockey boxenstop, i just made a shim for mine but will go boxenstop later.

If you're near AF they do a good job of skimming the shoes to fit......my mate had his done (£20?) and they work perfect.

Both brakes must be individually capable of bringing the vehicle to a stop by locking the brake full on.

I had a hub that sheared studs and made a brake shoe trimmer out of it. It's surprising Lambretta brakes work at all. Try removing the hub and you should be able to see if any areas are not making contact. I also had one shoe hard on with one not even close. If I had trimmed it one shoe would have had nothing on it. I removed the clip on heel of the shoe. It's a steel clip on and trimmed the aluminium shoe end. Refitted the steel clip. I had of course swapped the shoes round but they were the same. On another bike the hub would not fit even with the cam in the middle. I had 2 trim both heels then trim once the hub would go on. I can lock the rear a bit too easy. Of course the hub trimmer only works on the back.

just renewed my rear shoes as the mot was due and the rear brake was crap !. I fitted the new shoes and covered the brake material with chalk then refitted the hub and adjusted it up so it was just catching when I spun the hub. removed hub again and it was obvious where the high spots were due to rub marks on chalk. lightly sanded these then repeated until I got pretty even contact. drove it the mile and a half to mot station and It locked up no problem on brake test. good luck.
