I'm sure I have read that you can register a scooter without insurance. Can this be done as I don't wish to insure it yet as skint

I got the registration docs for mine without any insurance. This was more updating an old V5 than applying for a new one, but I don't see what insurance has to do with registering. You only need insurance if you are on a public road.

You do need an mot for registering so would need insurance if you intend to ride to the testing station.

If I remember correctly you submit the tax payment with the v55 or mark as historic vehicle if applicable.

you dont need insurance to register a scooter [only applies to ireland i believe....but easy to mis understand on form]
i have done 2 now without insurance without a problem and returned within 7 days
i have another pending as we speak
i get the scooter mot'd with frame no on mot certificate ....the first one i did when they retrned all docs and log book they sent a new mot with reg no on ....
i did another last november but they didnt issue an mot with reg no on!!!!!!!!!!!!! ......i went back to mot garage he put it back thro system with reg no on and then printed me a new mot with reg on ..hope this helps
also you need to re.check and sort road tax out with the reg no on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as the dvla dont seem to that automatically neither
they seem to make a simple process complicated
hope this helps
phil

If you are not putting it on the road, just remember to Sorn it as soon as you get your docs and reg' back or you may be liable to an £80 fine.
