Im having trouble trying set up my 185 cc engine, 28mm, fresco, alloy cheapo 185, new points and condenser
118 main
Av264 atomiser
x13 needle clip at the bottom
62 idle
55 choke
it starts , runs but even when hot it runs ok with the choke on and seems a bit more responsive off the throttle as its running richer of course, i wouldve expected it to flood and splutter ??
????
i have studied the jetting settings on here tooooooo....

Check and adjust float height. Check fuel flow from pipe. What slide is it running?

main looks about right, maybe try an x7 needle (top or second clip) idle looks way big, most I do run 50-55 idle, mixture screw 1 1/2 to 2 turns out, choke should be 70 and a 40 slide
if it runs ok with choke on I would suspect an air leak

have you done anything to the kit, checked port/transfere heights check exhaust port at bottom dead centre, I've had a few shocking ones !!
also some of them are cast wrong and the inlet manifold catches on the cylinder fins so doesn't seat correctly.....worth a check

considering how rich you are bottom end (big pilot and needle at bottom) i would a. suspect leak then b. up the atomiser to 266. try that with 55 pilot and x7 on 2nd clip. if you still encounter a lean spot lower down richen the slide. Most run a 40 but i found that way too lean no matter what atomiser needle combo i ran so went for a 30 slide and then had to lean off jetting again midrange and it runs far better now then it did.
best of luck!

Try with the AV266, if you have one, as there are some wildly differing needles out there! I've measured the shaft section of needles that should be 2.5mm and found that they can be over 2.52mm or less than 2.48mm, which makes a heck of a difference to what atomiser they will run correctly with.
That said, I'd also suspect an air leak, especially if the AV266 doesn't resolve the issue.
Had you said a 50 slide then I'd have pointed you in that direction but the 40 should be fine.
