hi my latest project li special mag housing will not budge and iam frightend I break the casing I have heated it up no joy the barrel and piston were the same but have managed to get them off with no damage

how have you got crank out without taking off the mag housing,

are you using the correct "pullers" or long bolts in the correct holes?

Try using "Plusgas" round the joint and tightening the bolts evenly.

I haven't got the crank out yet its stuck solid this has been stood 35 years not rotten infact I have just got the frame back from sandblasting and its like a new one I have tried the bolts and stripped one it will not budge

If your not thinking of using the crank again,remove the engine cover and front sprocket and hit the sprocket shaft with a hammer,with a bit of luck hitting the crank will loosen the mag housing.

I just had the same thing.

After you've belted the crank a few times, rotate it 180 or it will skew the housing and jam it. Keep doing that. Whack it a couple of times, rotate it 180 and repeat to fade.

Took me a few hours and I was shagged when I'd finished but I beat the tw@t in the end.

that's the trouble the crank is stuck in bdc but I will try it and hopefully get it out

I had this very same issue when recently stripping an untouched 51 year old series 3 LI125. Like the previous post, I had to knock it off by hitting the crank from the chaincase side. Heat the mag flange and if you can turn the crank every second or third hit. Cleaned everything up and gave the sleeve a gently rub down with wet 'n' dry however when it came to rebuilding the engine the refurbished mag was still a pretty tight fit.............Hope it lasts another 51 years before it needs to come off again.
