You hear a lot about ali barrells getting relined but is there anything you can do with a cast iron barreel with a broken skirt. I've got a GT barrell that has cracked both vertically and horizontally on the skirt, is there anything I can do about this to get it repaired?
Cheers

I have a Mugello 198 that I dropped, lost a huge chunk of the skirt but I've never had a problem with it

Don't see why you couldn't just machine it round just above the crack

I've done that before right up to the "step"- no problems in running at all.

That's and interesting break how did it happen? It should be OK to grind the crack into a slot with a radius at the end to stop the crack propagating. I've seen iron barrels run with big chunks of skirt missing so as long as you've resolved the original issue and there is no likelihood of a piece breaking off then you should be OK.
Has anyone tried and been successful with the cast iron stitch welding they do? Is it cost effective or better to just replace?
