I've stripped three engines this week and on all of them the rear bearing flange studs have been bent.
is this so common ?
what causes this ?
and how can it be avoided ?
the casings look ok with a quick check and obviously I'll replace the studs, but was surprised it seemed so prevalent.

It is quite common.

If your threads are healthy, renew the studs.

Same for me, I've done a few new SIL engines of late and all like that. I'm guessing at either the holes in the casing are off line or the holes in the plate which pulls the studs when tightened. :?: Are Italian ones the same?

these were two Italian and one Spanish.
yeah, i guess uneven overtightening of the nuts would pull the studs out.
thanks for replies
