I am now at the stage of fitting wiring harness and coil etc on my resto. Is it ok to mount these on a solid plate,or should they be mounted on something flexible,to cut down on vibration?

When I mount these components, I use home made Ally plates fixed on studs in the original coil holes(drilled out to 6mm)
Never had any problems with this.
However, some will tell you to incorporate some kind of rubber for vibration damping. I don't think it necessary, others do ..

The Gran Turismo electronic mounting bracket is a quality piece of kit, bolts through the existing hole in the frame so that CDI sits on driveside of the frame and regulator sits on magside of the frame, to de-clutter the wiring. If you feel it needs vibration damping then just fit rubber tap washers [4] beneath each fixing. It's made from none polished stainless steel and retails about £20.

You rarely hear Vespa owners talking about their CDIs failing randomly ( read - being vibrated to death) they're rubber mounted on the engine casing.

No one accused you having one ;)

Just pointing out the statistical difference in CDI failures between rubber mounted and solidly bolted to the two wheeled equivalent of a rampant rabbit...

I've seen those somewhere, but can't think where. They look like a good bit of kit.
