Another lovely Vespa engine under construction. Must say, the Pinasco casings really are excellent, definitely worth looking at. Kit is a Quattrini, with 60mm reed crank, V-force block, DRT gears, SIP clutch, choice of carbs, and Pinasco flywheel and ignition kit. Beautiful.

Looking forward to getting this one dynoed once its back here....

All of that looks excellent. Looking forward to the progress reports.

Presume that's a small block Quattrini looking at the stud spacings, have you seen any of the big block items yet?

On the Pinasco casings which agreed look good from the photos, do they have any additional beefing up that perhaps we can't see from what's shown?

Thanks.

How much would something like this cost in parts and labour?

i can only help by telling you the approx labour charges wise on this motor, but these are specific to this one motor ...graham will tell you the cost of the parts i'm sure. firstly the whole casings and motor needed building up.
cush drive beefed up and built.
the close ratio gear cogs (drt ) needed to be ground in to get the clearance.
reed block altered to accomodate the V force reeds and casings to match . crankcase mouth ported to match barrel.
crankshaft modified and flowed and balanced for improved performance.
clutch modified for coping with 25/30 bhp . barrel ported to achieve correct port timings.
engine mounts altered for wide wheel conversion, plus all the usual stuff.
my cost was £650, which also included quite a few minor parts.

Any chance you could expand on the clutch Sean?

Not that I've got a lardy on the go or will have anytime soon but I'm intrested on what the current thinking is.

Parts tally was a bit scary as this was a scratch build with all new high spec parts & no donor parts used... total cost of all parts was approx £3,400.00 (inc exhaust) - so with Sean's labour bill, the build cost totalled just over £4k... that's complete with pipe, rear hub, ect - basically ready to bolt-in & go...

The £3,400.00 covers the below list of parts used;

• Pinasco ‘Slave’ Small Block PX Cases
• Quattrini M1X 172 Kit
• Scooter & Service 60mm Reed Crank
• Scooter & Service 35mm Reed Inlet Manifold with Tassinari V Force 4 Reeds & Keihin PWK 35 A/S Carb
• New Bearings/Seals/Gaskets
• DRT Spitfire Cluster
• DRT 65t Primary
• Full DRT Loose Gears (55t 1st / 41t 2nd / 37t 3rd / 36t 4th)
• Piaggio PX Lusso Main & Input Shaft
• DRT 23t Clutch Gear
• BGM Super Strong Clutch + ancillaries
• Piaggio PX Lusso Selector Box, Selector Pin, Cruciform- ect
• Scooter & Service Clutch Cover
• Pinasco Flytech Ignition with 1600g flywheel
• MMW Billet Fan Wheel
• New Piaggio Rear Hub, Rear Brake Cam, Brake Arm, Shoes, Back Plate, Springs, Clips - ect
• Rally Kick Start Gear/Spring/Lever
• New Cowls & Covers
• Stainless Brackets & Fasteners, Shims, Misc items
• Pipe Design Bullet 177 Exhaust in Stainless

I thought it would be a lot. I bet it'll go like the clappers though.

What was the thinking on a small block case rather than a 200?

I already had the kit & the crank prior to the new pinasco cases coming out - so that was the reason for going with the small block cases... The pinasco cases are beautifully made & they seem to have addressed all of the 'weak' points associated with the original cases, with thicker castings & more material to all of the crucial areas - plus they've been designed to use the bigger T5 type main drive side bearing... so they should hopefully stay together!

Still a work in progress, jetting and fuel flow needs sorting, but promising results for a stroked 172 kit.....
