Clutch opinions

When re-building an engine, many people say don't re-use the clutch basket if it's a cush (spring) type. How important is this? I'm re-building a Li150 with a 175 kit. The basket is in good condition, but is a cush drive.

I think they could be suspect with springs breaking etc.
Having said that they were designed to reduce the "thump" on engaging gear from start and did do a good job.
TBH if you've got a good one (no springs broke and the cutouts clean and unworn) and you are putting it into a relatively low powered engine (As I think you are), then I would say use it.
I have before with no problems.

I've known 2 to break in mate's engines so I guess it is simply a matter of removing another weak link that could let you down at some stage.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I'm thinking it's been alright for possibly 50 years in the engine, albeit it was 150cc. Adding another 25cc isn't really over-powering it. But i do see the point about a weak link. I'll mull it over for a little while longer.

Play that the other way, it's spent 50 years in an engine, the design life was probably 5...

Yup! But it's design life may have been 30,000 miles? I have no idea how many miles it's actually done. It does
look good though.
