Historic Vehicle Tax Query

I have a registered Lambretta with an N reg plate but it is recorded as first registered in UK as 2012. How do I apply for free road tax as online it is still coming up as £38. Have tried to find out online but nothing seems to make things clear. I bought it registered so I don't have an age related document, do I even need one if it is registered as I thought these were to get a plate in the first place. I have the original number plate authorisation Certificate but it only has the number plate details to be issued, I take it they have done the age checks to release a plate number.

there is now a 40 year "rolling exemption" for VED.

What is the official date of construction on your V5C?

It may be worth phoning DVLA for clarification in your case.

"Date of construction" isn't a property of a V5C - it records the date of the first registration and the date of the first registration in the UK.

On the plus side you only have to wait until next year until it is tax exempt. :D

As Digdug points out, It doesn't have a year of manufacture on the V5 just a first registered date which is 2012. It was an import and doesn't have a previous first registered date , just the UK one.

Tax is exempt on vehicles 40 years old or over, this is calculated on 1st April every year.Vehicles with an N registration number,ie ABC 123N,were registered between August 1st 1974 and July 31st 1975.If your scooter was manufactured between 2nd April and 31st July 1975 it wont become eligable for historic tax until 1st April 2016.
