Best value upgrade for SIL 200 engine

I've been running a SIL 200 engine for a number of years now in my bastardized API 150. I replaced the crank and bearings a year or so ago with uprated parts when the bottom end finally melted.

I've run a number of carb and exhaust setups but it's currently on an open mouth PHBH 28 and a TSR Evo.

I'm intending a winter rebuild and want to get a bit more from the engine but I don't have TS1 money to spend and will be doing the work myself, god save us all :)

I quite like the idea of getting the existing barrel tuned and replacing the piston but looking at MB the costs seem to get close to just buying one of their alloy kits.

I've made some inquiries around these Indian 225 kits but despite some places claiming they have 'cleaned them up' my gut feeling is they are poor quality.

I only use the scoot at weekends and mainly not for huge distances (an argument with a traffic island 3 years ago has finished my commuting days), it already drinks fuel and I'm fitting a long range tank, touring isnt really on the agenda, maybe a rally or 2.

I'd be grateful for anyone's opinion on a good upgrade

Keep an eye out for a s/h mugello 225 or rapido otherwise leave it as it is unless you know anyone who can tune your existing barrel for less than the cost of a donor kidney.

With the alloy kits (cheap ones) it seems to be hit and miss and I wouldn't recommend one. A used reputable kit, if you can get hold of one, may be an option but I don't think there's much choice than to bite the bullet and pay £400 + for a decent kit.

I'd agree with Mick1 on the Indian alloy kits, I don't think you'll see any improvement.

There's a complete stage 4 MB kit on facebook at the moment you may want to look at.

With a SIL 200 barrel you do have the possibility of a rebore and larger piston. With a Dremmel you can chamfer and clean up the ports a little.

Match the inlet port to the inlet manifold in order to increase flow is quite easily done. You wont win much but it will give you a small improvement.

Bgm 225 kits on facebook for around the 370 ,mark , I had an interesting chat with Darrell taylor about the very such thing using a 30mm carb and his modified tsr pipe , it involved sending my cylinder and head so he could tune it supply a new piston he was quoting 18-20 usable hp with good bottom end power cost 200 quid , downside he is very busy :)
