Gearbox end plate

Just opened up a 68 Spanish LI g/box & the end plate studs are all needing heli-coiled(someone in the past has re-built the engine leaving a bit of a mess).
Trouble is with the end plate not being tightened properly it's been' rocking' leaving the dowel holes elongated. Anybody got any suggestions on a fix for this. My thought was getting a stepped dowel made, drilling out the engine case to match the larger diameter on the dowel with the smaller diameter matching the end plate.
Thanks in advance........

Sounds like a plan to me. The other option I suppose would be to weld up the dowel holes in the plate and re-drill.

I use slightly bigger hardened pins, bolting the endplate down and drilling straight thru into the casing. The pins are from large chains like those on forklifts etc

Yep ive done the above , I just used a couple of rollers fron a mag bearing nu2205 , from memory the end plate pins /dowels are 7mm and the rollers are 8mm .
Line up the endplate and bolt down , then drill through the endplate and into the alloy, the rollers are a bit shorter than the original pins so dont drill as deep. The use stud lock in the caseing holes and dont forget to "peen" over the outside of the endplate holes. :)
