Unfortunately not. It is a 40 year rolling exemption for classic vehicles so your scooter would have to be constructed before 1st January 1974 to be tax exempt

I`ve got an original uk registered 1974 bike and age related 1974 bike

Do DVLA automatically advise that its tax except when its time to tax - IE at reminder time ??

Never thought about until I saw the OP

No they don't, Gaz. If you go to the Post Office when it's time to re tax it, they can change it to historic there and then.

so if you don't they just keep sending reminders to tax ........

I always do it online so I wonder if any option to do it there ??

GOV website states manufactured before 1st January 1975

I don't know whether they do send reminders?? I don't think you can do it online but I remember the lad in the post office saying that the system knew that my scoot was now eligible for a historic tax class.

As to why they don't automatically change them, well I could only surmise :-)

I've tried that in Gloucester - all I got was blank looks.

So my SIL GP, registered in January 1976, will be tax exempt from next year?

Now we no longer have to faff with an actual paper disk, do you still have to annually renew a machine's eligibility for exemption of road tax?
