Recently swapped my exhaust for an ADS3 which pulls better than the JL3 I had on before but stone walls in 2nd gear so I'm not getting the full use of the available power.
Now thinking I need to change the gearbox but what should I go for?

Italian GP200, LI150 or ???

Current set up...

Top End - TS1 225 (Touring tune)
Gearbox – GP200 Indian
Gearing – 20 x 46
Carb – TMX 30 - Main 300, Power 40, Pilot 40, Slide cut to 30mm, Atomiser O2, Needle P3.5 – Position middle

the best gearbox is a close ratio box, i bought one off joe who did the last post(thanks joe) you end up with a long first gear, then all the gears are quite close together, keeps you in the powerband when changing up, also better on the downchange, you lose the big diffrence between 3rd and second gear, front sprocket will depend if you ride two up or not and how hilly etc, maybe a bit of trial and error.

I had a 19 front sprocket on with the JL3 and it was quick but the ADS produces more low down power and flies in 3rd and 4th . Just need to try and get more out of 2nd

Use Tony Cassidy's gearbox visualiser and you can input 2 different gearboxes to compare performance, it'll highlight the changeover revs between gears so you can compare your current set up with the others that you've suggested. Just be truthful to yourself re power bands.
https://avantone.wordpress.com/ i'm a technophobe so if I can use it then anyone can.

I should be on commission too, except that it's free to begin with.

Thanks Martin.
Been using the visualiser but I'm not totally convinced with its accuracy.
Anyway I think close ratio is the way to go but its all food for thought.

why are you feeling the need to get more out of 2nd?

Close ratio boxes are only needed with peaky exhausts..the ads3 certainly isnt..choose your final drive...mine currently is 4.7 but i have had it to 4.4..that pipe bridges even the biggest gap with out of fashion gearboxes...im on a li125box 18x46.

I run an af road , very similar to ads 3 .
lI 150 at 4.6.
Much better than the gp 200 with the torque characteristic of these pipes it gives a linear feel.
The lack of over rev makes the 2-3 step of the gp box a pain.
Whereas the torque of the ads makes the 3-4 step of the li box easy.
Hopes this helps

The power is there but the ADS wont allow it to rev out in 2nd which is a tad frustrating.

I am trying to persevere with the ADS because it most definitely gives more power than the JL3 if you get me and I just wondered if a different gearbox would overcome the problem.

The other problem is I'm getting conflicting advise. hay ho

I suppose it will come down to trial and error but who has the time and money to keep trying different gearbox options.
