Hi
As I mentioned in my intro I have a Sx 225 TS1. The problem is that it vibrates badly. It vibrates enough to have cost me quite a few parts + shaking one of my finger to bits on a long trip. After trying my friends RB225 I realise that it doesnt have to vibrate like this. I am suspivious of the HPC Crankshaft that is in there and were wondering if anybody else had any experience of this?
My engine set up is.
TS1 225 with road tune by Taffspeed (packin plate under cylinder because of Yam rod)
Taffspeed exhaust
Taffspeed HPC crankshaft with Yam rod
Std reed with packing plate underneath
Dellorto Flatslide carb
Ser 2 rubbers as there were no good Ser3 rubbers when I built the engines many Years ago.
I have run this engine with various flywheels and stators without much of a difference. Right now it runs BGM stator and an old AF flywheel.
I have tried less and more ignition timing without much change.
The carburation were set up at the Taffspeed dyno during a trip to the UK
What do You guys think? There is not that many tuned Lammys in Norway so I would be grateful for any input on the matter.
Whole lotta shakin goin on..
I forgot to say; I had it apart last Year and we checked the crank. Absolutely spot on so its not twisted. I am just wondering if the screw on pads can cause this vibration? Any had this Taff HPC crankshaft and tried to change to a " normal one"?
Would totally agree....^^^^^^^joespeed wrote:crank could be twisted!but the series 2 engine mounts will not be too good for the white finger!

I now have a HPC crank in mine I think the balance factors built into the crank causes mine to vibrate alot more now... but only upto 4,500 rpm, then it starts to smooth out.... on mine only the piston rings and crank were changed... It used to have a Taffspeed 110mm Yam rod, LPC 58mm stroke crank... now it has a Full circle 110mm Yam rod 58mm stroke crank... (I also had this checked on two occasions once at Grampians before putting it into the engine then took it out cus of vibration and took it to Reedspeeds to be checked again and it was straight)..... But before fitting this crank it used to be alot smoother, and well below 4000rpm... But once the new crank gets to around 6000rpm it still is pretty smooth and can be ridden for a good hour at a time without white finger setting in...

Strange..
Mine seems to vibrate more with the rpms coming in. It vibrates at ide too, but it becomes more violent as the rpms come in..

Sticky's book says that Innocenti changed engine mounts to wider ones to decrease vibrations. I'd suugest that you change them before concentrating on crank as joe said.
I know. Change of engine mounting rubbers is going to happen sooner rather than later, but I was wondering if anybody else had any experience with this crankshaft compared to a non padded as well. If an ordinary crank is smoother it might be worth cahnging it as the vibrations in 4th are strong enough for me to back off and thats not ideal

i think i would change the mounts............
but also ..........check that your intake manifold clears the frame tube........as you say you have the packing spacer........
and also that exhaust clears frame strut.............both these could transmit vibes.........

Good tips. I'll check the inlet manifold. But this was only mounted this year and the vibrations also happened earlier. The exhaust clears the frame.
