On a ride out today, I managed to blow my a hole in my piston, no nip up just doing 60 then a phew noise and no power, due to weak mixture I think, upon strip down the barrels looks perfect, so will be be ok to get a new piston and rings and rebuild, or does it mean new barrel aswell?

This is true, stick your little finger in the transfer ports and you'll find it coated with fine ally particles, the stuff gets everywhere

You might be lucky blasting out the crank case with carb or brake cleaner but there is a very real risk that particle will find their way into the crank seals

Most of the ally particles were in the transfer ports and on the reeds, gave the crank case a good blast with brake cleaner seems clean, but I'll strip back crank this week.
