I cant fit the cylinder cover when the exhasut down pipe is in place which means I always have to fit both at the same time. This is a right pain. Also the height at which the pipe sits makes it hard to loosen the large bolt that holds the casing in place (as its allen headed - obviously this would not be such and issue with a normal bolt but it does make me feel that the pipe is too high since why include this in the fixing kit I bought if it makes so little sense for it to be an allen headed bolt

) I've asked a friend and they dont have this problem so I'm assuming something is off rather than this being the norm.

It's normally a hex headed bolt. Too long a bolt can also cause a problem getting it out.
Different exhausts sit at different heights but once you have the bolt out you can usually rotate cover clockwise and get it off without removing the u bend
