Am I having a blonde moment?

Hi guys

We've just rebuilt a PX engine, new DR kit, bearings, seals etc... The problem is it's very difficult to find the gears and there are massive "neutrals" between every gear! First of all we thought it could be a worn selecter so that's been changed.. I've read that there are different size selecters could this be the problem?

Before we change the cables is it possible the cables are round the wrong way??? Or could it be internal, cruciform?

Cheers

Thanks Norrie, as far as I know the cogs haven't been turned but good idea.. I'll check if We have to split casings!

Do you know if cables around the wrong way would cause these symptoms?

If cables wrong way then u would know as gears would be wrong way round. Ie pull back and you would be able to rotate thru 2nd 3rd and 4th

disconnect the cables and will it rock into gear using a screwdriver to move the selector ?

If you can get all the gears and no "false" neutrals then it looks like a cabling/setting up issue.
