play in rear wheel 1970 gp150

i suppose there must be some play but how much is acceptable?
"some" play is acceptable and indeed probably required to allow for expansion when warm.
If you rock the rear wheel backwards and forwards top to bottom or side to side, you should just detect a very small amount of play- if its a lot of play then its either the bearing worn; the cone/hub worn; the rear hub nut not torqued up enough or the gearbox end plate loose.
There is mention, I think, in the original 1960's WSM regarding this
