Best carb for a TS1 + JL3

What's people's thoughts on the best carb for my new TS1? The 30mm Delly that I was hoping to use is too big for the side panel to fit. Would something like a TMX be slimmer and fit? Tia ;)

A TMX will fit but i never got mine to work propperly without cutting a hole in the pannel on my GP.

The LTH manifold is shorter and gives more clearence.

I have a TMX 30 and said manifold on my series 2 now without a hole and it works great.

I don't mind cutting a 'hole' I just don't want to cut out a section as big as I have seen on some scoots.

a series 2 is wider than a gp so will have more room between carb and panel, i have a 34 delly on my rb gp and it was a lot faster without the side panel fitted, even thought the carb was shortened by rayspeed, hence it now has a hole in the panel with a nice stainlees steel mesh and ring covering the hole, only downside is petrol and oil gets spat out of the carb and onto the side panel or on your pillions leg, but it will be much nicer to ride, you might have alter jetting to suit.

The TMX range are probably the best bet, i use the TMX30 which is very compact, for the panel hole just use a grill from Chas speed, loads of options and discreet.

Going to put a hole in my panel and see how the Delly does, it will fit now that I have taken the black plastic bit off the front. Have tried to look on Chasspeed's website for the grill but it's down at the mo.

Thanks guys :D

I run 34mm vhsb on both my gp and sx with no holes in panel.
I use MB manifolds and malossi rubbers with no problems at all.
I've got a phbh on my S2 with the black plastic bellmouth - again no issues.
A phbh should fit under gp panel with space. Look at your manifold choice before you start cutting holes in panelsm

The manifold I have is the one that came with the kit :)

back in the day ..... before the shorter MB manifold (other shorter manifolds are available) and amal MK2 carbs for TS1s we used to shorten the carb and manifold then use radiator hose which would give the clearance with panels on - an hours work on a lathe - a decent engineering shop would do it if you tell them exactly what you want

I would change the manifold as the newer shorter type give better frame clearance and push the carb away from toolbox (if you are using a standard toolbox)

Not many people use the standard manifold.....think there is an MB one on ebay or put an add in the wanted column

My TS1 has an LTH short manifold and the 30 PHBH fits under the panel with the plastic bell mouth no problem. I have also run it with a 30 mm PWK and there was enough room for a filter on a GP bellows. This is on a Jet.
