not really...............
I'm using a Mugello V1 straight out of the box.
All I've done is replace the clutch plates and springs, put a 22mm carb on and a 42mm Clubman.
It's still on 6v and points. Original crank and bearings etc etc.
3 years down the line and 5000 miles later- absolutely no problems whatsoever. And it flies.
Don't be conned into thinking that everything must be changed- a lot of "remade" items are absolute crap anyway.

He said "Get the best out of" in which case most things need changeing.
But the Mugello 186 is very versitile so can run on pretty much any carb/crank/pipe combo.

point taken! If he's going to scream it to the max, then yes some items will need upgrading. If he's looking for a nice tourer with a fair bit of extra grunt as standard, then you can get away with an engine which is already in good fettle

I had a mugello 225 and to be honest it was'nt much faster than an iron barrel with the same carb / pipe (TM24 and Ancillotti)

the 186 kits are produced to a higher state of tune than the 200 versions for some reason

Cheers lads ! managed to do a bit of research on it and was advised to change the crank to an AF race do the bearings and seals to quality ones replace the chain to a heavy duty one keep the 28mm dell and jl3 and maybe change the front sprocket ! the guy assured me i would'nt be dissapointed .

I'd go with a GP MEC race crank and save yourself around £50. I'd change to driveside seal plate to a flat steel one too. SKF explorer drive side bearing, FAG mag bearing, plus viton seals.

I most definitely wouldn't go for an AF "Race" crank
I've been thrashing my Mugello 186 for 3000 miles with a VHSA28 & Mikeck.
[I did fit new rings 200 miles ago, I am running open carb, so expected the wear]
It feels like it can be caned all day long.
