So,I am doing the Squish on my engine.125 Italian casing with the 198 top end.I had 1.6 with a base gasket, and have 1.1 with no base gasket.Would it be ok to run without a base gasket and stick with 1.1?
Cheers.

Wont leaving the base gasket off alter the port timings, not that i know what i'm talking about.
The reason i say is i'm reading other threads and they say that to many gaskets top or bottom can alter timings,is it that critical.

You can use packers or gaskets to adjust the port timings a little if the length of your rod allows and you don't mess the squish up.

On a standard rod though the scope for this to affect the timings too much is limited.

After you reach the limit of that you're looking at removing material from either the ports or the top or bottom of the barrel.

The AF alloy base gaskets I tried all measured spot on. I'd use a 0.3mm and try for 1.4mm squish.

Not using a gasket is OK - as long as you seal it properly and you're confident the mating surfaces are flat and square - also put some sealant down the spigot if you can.

1.1 is OK too - if you're confident of your measurement.

Hi Rosscla, thanks for the reply.I have used some sealer that we use in work for sealing crankcases on 2 stroke outboards.I am confident that my measurements are ok,checked them 3 times :? .
