I have just aquired a newly built rb236 running a 61mm crank if that makes a difference, and avanti head the problem I have it starts fine then runs for a 10 maybe 20 seconds then dies and then its a pig to start, once it's warm it starts runs lovely, I'm thinking maybe pilot jet? I'm using a tmx35, needle en57 middle clip, pilot 22.5, main 130 although not really used that the mo running in,air screw 1/12 turns out, timing 17dg nk road, really pleased but this is starting to bug now, I have read that the original choke springs aren't that strong maybe not seating fully although looking through the spy hole it seems to be. sorry for
the long post any thoughts and advise appreciated.

main 130?
That's WAY too small, I'm surprised it will even fire up. Get up to around 300 and start over.

symptoms sound like the choke not fully closing (as you thought).

using a bgm 120, wassell conversion. if the cdi is dodgy will it not be intermittent, once warm it does seem to run fine.
I do have a couple on working bikes so will give it go.

Sometimes wen faulty the CDi will breakdown under load, I know the problems but not the definitive cause, I just change parts till it works then throw the crap away lol. Cud be the needle but I doubt it.

Just a quick reply it was a dodgy earth,

only realised after switching cdi from another bike both items work perfectly.
And more to the point the rb sounds lovely now to get some miles on it
Anyhow thanks for input jonashford & mick1
