I've recently got more time on my hands and am a bit more confident with engines etc. one of my scooters is a Spanish LI 150, early model (66). It was running a muggelo 186 with 26mm delorto and 42mm AF clubman. Nice ride and goes well. Recently though my mates are leaving me behind so I've been fiddling a bit. I've changed the front sprocket to a 16 tooth, gearbox is the early one without the 3rd gear gap. This change has added about 7-8 mph on the top end. I'm quite pleased with this but wondered what else to do to get a bit more? Before I touched it it would do 63 mph (gps) at 7100 rpm (sip speedo). It's been pretty windy but now I'm getting 65 mph at 6700rpm first test run.
Do you think it would pull a 17 tooth sprocket? Or should I look at expansion exhaust? I would have fancied a bgm clubman but they're not available, so was considering a jl3.
Any thoughts/advice? Bigger carb and expansion or try another change to gearing?
Thanks chaps
Advice please

You should be congratulated with that result, and you can go on to become a scooter tuning guru overnight with that level of intuition. I am confident that you could coax 80+ out of it with an approriate expansion pipe, bigger carb, change of gearing + ditch all the mirrors and spotlights.Shipleystevep wrote: Before I touched it it would do 63 mph (gps) at 7100 rpm (sip speedo). I doubt a taller sprocket will gain you speed with that spec; it may even slow you down as I doubt it would have the torque at higher rpm to pull it.
A jl3 and a larger carb will gain you power but higher up the rev range.
So in a nutshell, a jl3 and any of the phbh dellortos will help you keep up with your mates.

ha ha set myself up for that didn't I. Should have written "this change should have added 7-8 mph to the top nd according to gearing calculators" Reality is I've gained 2 mph but at lower revs.
Thanks Hendy that's the question I was asking.
Knowledge, the guy that's much better is running mugello 186 standard li150 box but with bgm clubman and 30mm mikuni
