Bought a lightend flywheel for my scoot, put it on and discovered it needs machining after destoying the pick up on my stator and swarf from where it ground the studs that hold the housing onto the case. Okay I thought, lesson learnt so I ordered a new pick up from a well known stockist in Nottingham. Fitted it yesterday all good I thought till I kick it over and heard crunching from said flywheel. On removal the pick up has literally snapped at it fixing on the stator. Stumped I rang the dealer and explained the situation to the gentleman on the phone who chuckled and explained that the pick up (k2) needs to be ground down as the magnets can catch( which is what happened to mine).
So after all that it's a new stator ordered as well as another pick up so on the plus side at least I'll have a spare stator once I fettle and fix the old one. Another lesson learnt.

Thought I should warn you as it's an expensive ( for me) mistake to make.

have to say when I ran with lightened AF flywheel, used to take about 1ml off inside of mag housing to take stator back a tad.

Also now don't use said flywheels, seem to get too many eratic timings.

Mid range lightened SIL flywheel seems to be the way to go nowadays

With the original Ducati flywheel the other way was to take 1mm off the inside of the flywheel as removing it from the mag housing sometimes causes alignment issues and erratic timing

Later AFR flywheels had this modification built in, but sometimes had brass screws holding the magnets in which sometimes caused erratic timimg

Forgot to mention that the replacement pick up was snapped when I replaced my original sil flywheel, I'm going to get 1 mm taken off the inside face of the lightened one. Yet more to fork out.
