holed piston

holed my piston sunday,cant find any blow marks,rubber
is in tact,stator is intact and all correct,cant seem to find
any blockages in the carb,i had filled up approx 10 miles
before after doing 70 or so miles then bang,a hole in the
piston i could get my index finger in,could it have been
the fuel,
p.s.any body got a spare piston f/s,cheers

Yes fuel can go off, what fuel was it, contact the supplier and keep a sample. JB tuning had this recently, so may be worth a call to them about it.

sure it was murco,i only try to use esso,but when youre
low you need to fill up

bit of a wild guess but it may be no hole in filler cap causing a vaccum as the petrol in the tank got lower thus not letting correct amount of petrol flow ? im probably wrong

Seen that happen on a mates 190, but he had the tank powder coated and the cap... ... didnt hole the piston, just nipped up... always worth checking..

Get the fuel tested if you can. Ive had some terrible rubbish from BP more than once. Didn't hole the piston, but bike wouldn't run until the fuel was changed.

Like Soulsurfer I was chatting to John and Dean at JB about this last week. They had successfully sued or arranged out-of-court (can't remember) with the oil company to cough up £2k in compensation.

thanks guys for the replies,also the exhaust bracket to the engine
had come loose,again no signs of blowing but could the 'loose'
fitting exhaust rattled about enough to dislodge the barrel enough
or long enough to cause the piston to blow

You need to look underneath the scoot, mate, and check for signs of an air leak at the exhaust manifold____will manifest itself as black sludge dripping from the gasket area. If your exhaust has been flapping around for a while, it's highly likely this is what has caused your seizure.

Experience (or paranoia, more likely ) has taught me that every time I feel the slightest drop off in performance I always stop and check for signs of black sludge around exhaust gasket and cylinder head

nothing there mate,can't understand it,manifold is tight,
unless the exhaust just moved the barrel enough to let
air in,cheers for all replies though
