I have got the scoot to run ok, but it has to be revved quite hard to get there, then when getting to a small incline I need to drop down to 3rd. The set up is muggy186 latest with bridged port, 28mm phbh, ram filter, jl3, electronic ignition 18", standard tv 3 gearing, 15x47 sprockets. I really want a set up that has more torque for me, don't like screaming the guts out of it, and what would I need to change to get more torque and not run out of puff, I do want to use it for 2 up sometimes.
Thanks Ian
torque needed tv 3

hi, it might be worth lowering the gearing slightly, a smaller clutch basket like a 46, if you check out mb developments mark recomends this for the tv as the gearing is a little high. more torque from your engine can be improved with a more tourquey exhaust, optimising your squish impoves power at all revs also.

forget what i said about the 46 tooth basket, i think thats the standard one, so your 47 is better, a smaller front spocket would increase your pulling power and lower your top speed a bit, a clubman should improve tourque, but im not sure it would be a good match as you have bridged ports, i know the devtour is very tourqey, ive got a fat mamba on my rb and thats very tourqey.

Sorry to disagree but if he is having to change down on inclines then the gearing has to go the other way. You were right the first time, 46 on the rear but leave the front at 15. It means it will be revving higher at any given speed but it will hold it in the power band better. The GT186 runs very well with a BGM Clubman btwholty wrote:forget what i said about the 46 tooth basket, i think thats the standard one, so your 47 is better, a smaller front spocket would increase your pulling power and lower your top speed a bit, a clubman should improve tourque, but im not sure it would be a good match as you have bridged ports, i know the devtour is very tourqey, ive got a fat mamba on my rb and thats very tourqey.

been scratching my head about this,so here we go i am presuming its got a tv175 box in it as its a muggy 185 with standard sprockets the final drive ratio is 4.84 to 1 and with a larger rear spocket of 47 teeth the ration changes to 4.91 to one. i do belive the higher ratio gives lower top speed and more pulling power, and the opposite is also true the lower ratio will give a higher top speed but less pulling power. i think this type of box has a big jump between 3rd and 4th hence why your struggling in 4th

My mistake, well spotted but a bridged exhaust port doesn't mean that it wouldn't work with a box type exhaust especially if you were looking for more torque at lower revs surelyMuppet wrote:The set up is muggy186 latest with bridged port [cut paste]coaster wrote:
