I've just bought and recieved a 175 iron barrel kit for a series 3 conversion. The cylinder head supplied has been machined on the mating face, so it is totally smooth (no raised area that would normally match the gasket) I've never had a kit like that before and I've bought a few !!
Has anyone had any experience of this ?
175 conversion
I had a 240 like that butthe head was matched to a kawasaki H2 piston dome

i would assume therefore that the head has been machined to match the piston dome, and combustion chamber has been reworked to suit. BUT that is an assumption, so unless you can find out for sure, I would get it looked at and checked for correct compression or you may find, as material has been removed, that the combustion volume is too high. was the kit new? did it come from a dealer that specified they have reworked the kit? was it supplied with a piston? if so, what piston?
usually if that amount of material is removed its done so to match a flatter domed piston, like jap pistons (suzuki, mitaka, kawasaki etc.) but again, that is just an assumption.

Things have moved on. I questioned the dealer who said I should measure the head combustion chamber diameter and if it was correct (it was) try fitting it.
This proved difficult as the cylinder stud holes didn't line up either.
It's going back tomorrow.................................

If you want a properly engineerind 175 kit then harry barlow is your man he dry fitted my kits on his own "jig" cases he also gives you the timings and squish measurements plus jetting details
