Hi , does anyone have any experience in buying an imported scooter ? I've seen a fair few scooters advertised for sale through various sources and at a reasonable price(s) , my question is how do you go about registering one ? What are the pitfalls if any ?
Depends on where you are importing from. The pitfalls are quality and road worthiness of some scooters from some of the countries advertising. Would I buy and import a Scooter from a scooterist from Scandanavia or Europe - probably , would I do the same for India or vietnam etc - probably not.

I have an Indian import. Every time I upgrade something I find another thing wrong.EG tubeless rims cost me the price of a rear hub, cone and washer because the og was fu##ed and running out of true, dropped the forks out today to replace springs buffers ect only to find the steerer is bashed to f##k. AVOID INDIAN IMO.

As with anything it's 'buyer beware'.
Don't buy sight unseen. Photos are not enough.
If you don't know what your looking at, take someone who does.
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Walk away there will always be another one.
Ensure its been NOVA registered or you could find yourself with a tax bill.
Whatever you buy be prepared to rebuild it from the ground up. These things are mostly 30 odd years old and will have through the hands of at least one bodger wherever they come from.

You should be able to get a NOVA no issue for that, as it's from the EU, then you have to get a dating certificate and apply for a registration. I think you have to have it more or less ready to roll though. You can't get a V5 for a box of bits.

Find out what warranties you get when you buy if any from a dealer pay with a credit cardRs fruitbat wrote:Thanks for the reply ,but I was talking about scooters that are already in the UK and have already been imported .immylam wrote:Depends on where you are importing from.
