Starting to put things together for an engine rebuild. It's going on my Series 2 rusteration. Not wanting to spend a fortune on engine like I did on my Mugello. Just want a plodder that Is good on fuel, keeping pretty standard, no expansion pipe or reed valves etc. was looking on fleabag and seen the SRS 185 kit for £145. Any thoughts on this kit?

I've never had one but I have heard that they are of variable quality. If you are going to buy one get one that has been re-worked,bore size checked and honed if needed, stud holes tapped out and studs fitted and loctited etc.Buzzsolomoto sells re-worked kits and other scooter shops do them.

I have a sr175 on my series 3 with 22mm jetex and clubman. It goes OK. Not sure on speed though. Speedo doesn't work.
For my series 2 I am going for a AF s4 200 Ali kit for small block. They do a 175 or 185. Asso piston so hopefully should be reasonably reliable!!!!!! Reboreable any way
I am not after balls out speed. Just want to be able to keep out of the way of hgvs.

Thanks all, was a little worried about quality to be honest and your replies have made me think I'm going to get something with a little better pedigree

Get a gp 150 cylinder bored out to 175 stage 4 tuned will give you a good increase for not alot of money

Shocky this is interesting. Are you saying we would get a lot more than stock as a GP, using stock numbers? I'm looking at building something and most of my riding will be urban so I don't need a high HP, high rpm, peaky screamer.

as Shocky said, using an original GP150 cylinder bored to 62mm, or even 64mm would give very good results and in all probability much better than an Indian "tuned" kit (which often/ always require a lot of work and generally put out not much, if any, of an increase.)
Standard GP150 apparently gave the same power output as SX150 but had a much flatter power curve, which, in theory, would suit your style of riding.
