Just wiring up a series 3 and it has a complete new loom, light switch and ignition and a rebuilt muggy 186 engine. I'm no guru on the wiring side but engine is at least running etc.....its just lights now.
Problem is cant get lights to work........to add to complication, the ignition switch has a 'purple' wire and the light switch a 'yellow' wire. The wiring diagrams in Stickys book doesn't show (on any diagram) these coloured wires from either the ignition OR light switch.
I think, but not sure, that the purple wire from the ignition should be grey (from an original colour coding diagram in stickys book) and, that this should connect in the bulb holder to a 'grey' wire in the wiring loom on the scooter, BUT on the new loom there is no grey (4th) wire which I think it should connect to and then goes to the foot pedal, only a brown, black and green wire which I have merely plugged into the headlamp holder to correspond with the same coloured wires from the switch and ignition.
Not sure where the yellow from the switch goes, but think its orange on the ignition.
ALSO, is there a particular headlamp holder junction box I should be using (are they different) but would have thought so long as they are plug and grouped as they should be this should work. I haven't ruled out dodgy new parts of course but wondered it anyone might have thoughts on this issue ?
Wiring issue ?

Now sorted ...................after half day, plugging in and unplugging. Moral of the story ...only buy parts that use the correct wiring colours, lesson learnt !!
