I’ve got a Rapido barrel that I had some problems with last year sitting in the shed gathering dust. Was wondering if I could do something with it.
Ring snagged on the exhaust port and made a bit of a mess of the piston and barrel so would need a rebore but was wondering if there was any point looking into maybe a ceramic or nikasil type coating. Anyone done this or know if it's worthwhile ??

Get a steel liner put into it there are plenty capable of doing this..... Then fit a quality Jap piston 70mm is a nice size for a Suzuki TS 250 piston... cant remember compression height off hand (maybe 34mm) you can shorten the barrel to suit, or fit a long rod.... good conversion that many are now doing...MartyTough wrote:I’ve got a Rapido barrel that I had some problems with last year sitting in the shed gathering dust. Aptec who do ceramic coating used to do it to Iron barrels but it was very hit and miss so they stopped.
You should have plenty of rebores on the barrel.
Whatever you do it will probably be cheaper to get a new barrel.

Hi Ian, you guys checked the hardness of the barrel and iformed me that it was REALLY soft. I'm sure the quote was "it's not good when the carbon deposits are harder that the barrel" Sure there is scope for rebores but can't see the point in re-boring for it to wear out in super quick time again.Ian Hepworth wrote:Aptec who do ceramic coating used to do it to Iron barrels but it was very hit and miss so they stopped.
