Been playing with exhausts and all the time the starting from cold has been poor. Just put a BGM Clubman on and by chance forgot to turn off the petrol, result starts first kick , tried each day for a few days. For sanity's sake tried turning off the petrol and left it a couple of days , back to several kicks to get going. Went to the local Lam club meeting runs ok but a bit boggy at times, from warm fuel left on , first kick.
Any thoughts ?
As I say , not a biggy , just wondered why .
Not really a problem but a question

Just for science sake have you tried leaving the scoot with petrol off. Then going out turning the petrol on as the first thing you do, then go through your ride preparation before starting? Could be a filter is blocked? Have you tried running through a tank full of fuel with the correct amount of fuel system cleaner added?Mike - - Bristol wrote:Been playing with exhausts and all the time the starting from cold has been poor. is your carb leaking
just thinking could your carb be leaking and running empty over night then when you try to start you have to get fuel back into the carb before it will start

Is your choke opening enough and is your chokejet big enough, if the fuel is left on a small amount might leake past tbe the needle tip and flow intothe carb acting like a choke and this is the reason it starts first time,
you should start the scooter by turning the fuel on then the choke turn key on and keep you bloody hand OFF the throttle shouldnt need more than 2 kicks to start then should settle into a high tickover and be a bit smokey what carb do you have and is it the correct slide for your engine size the reason i ask is some jetex carbs are sold for 200, s when infact they are for 150, s if a jetex check the4es a gasket on the slide cover some dont and cause air leaks

RT195 , 30mm Delly , lost track of jetting but slightly on the rich side.
Can't see any obvious leaks , no in line filter and the tank filter has only had a couple of tank full's through it.
I'll try turning the petrol on for a while before starting this weekend if I get 5mins.
Cheer for the responses..
