Whilst thinking about how to solve the front diving issue on my VNB with 10" wheels (front tyre touches inside of mudguard, when using front brake) why can't the spring be repaced with a spring/shock arrangement? So you'd still have a shock at the front, fork stem pivot in the middle and a shock/ spring at the back? Would it work?

I think the difficulty would be getting hold of something that was up to the job. If you look at how thick the coils of the spring are, and then think about how big the coils of a coil-over-shock would be... well they'd have to be pretty small to fit into the space without rubbing on everything... I think until you get a 10" fork you should ask around for a heavier spring. Lots of people have them in a box somewhere because it's not a great solution, so you may get one for nothing. Might solve your problem in the shorter term.

Although it will compress your damper , why couldn't you make an extension to the screw thing that winds into the spring coils at the top? Possibly a rear damper extension nut cut down and then a spacer block fitted around it? Might be a crap idea but I haven't got one here to look at.

I fitted some 10" Bajaj forks at the weekend, they are a straight fit and 20mm longer on the fork stem, so I need a 165mm shock, I cut down a 180mm shock to fit, but the mudguard touched the frame, so I had to p155 about with spacers on the front to lift it away from the frame. The diving was even worse than the 8" forks, however my 8" spring (155mm) is an SIP xstrong spring and the one I cut was standard.
