If I buy a vehicle in Europe and get the registration and documents could I ride straight home ??
Then could I just get a UK registration number as a swap from the DVLA ??
Or does that sound too simple
TS1 and PX stay in the garage (future barn finds) out on the GTS 300 when I go out on a scooter.
I know I’ll get there and back
You can do, but assuming that it's a scooter you're talking about, it'll be a lot less hassle and money to rent a van/trailer.
You'd have to obtain temporary transit plates from the vehicle licensing authority in the country you're buying in. I've done it for cars in Belgium, Germany and France - it takes from a few hours to a couple of days, and you have to apply in person and have someone with you who can speak the local language. Insurance varies from country to country. In Germany for example I seem to remember it being included in the transit plate cost. Somewhere between €200 and €500 should cover the plates and insurance.
As soon as you reach your home address, you can no longer use the transit plates, so you'll have to do the usual NOVA and DVLA stuff to get a UK plate before using the scooter. I got stopped by the police driving around town a couple of days after importing the car, whilst still on transit plates, but thankfully he let me off.

Take your mobile home over for a holiday, get a receipt and stuff in the back. Thats what I did, but a more meagre van and tent. I was away for 6 weeks, used the scoot the whole time there too
