whats the purpose of the internal Swan Neck on a Lambretta Airbox?

I tend to dremal them out whenever I can and it appears to give a small gain- could be all in the mind though

Any ideas? Its obviously there for some reason.

Hi Chris, originally as an intake noise baffle. If your engine is anything over standard then yes it will make a difference. Provided you're running through the air box of course
