Got my renewal from Allstyles this week and phoned them yesterday to query what was discussed last year on here regarding claims when using Equity Red Stars recovery service and I was pointed to this on the demands and needs page

PLEASE ALSO NOTE IF YOU MAKE A CLAIM UNDER THE BREAKDOWN COVER THIS WILL BE RECORDED AS A CLAIM AND REGISTERED BY THE INSURERS ON THE CLAIMS AND UNDERWRITING EXCHANGE. THESE CLAIMS WILL NEED TO BE DECLARED TO INSURERS WHEN APPLYING OR RENEWING YOUR MOTOR INSURANCES. IF YOU WOULD PREFER A SEPARATE BREAKDOWN POLICY PLEASE CONTACT US

So following this ive taken out insurance without breakdown and arranged a separate breakdown cover

So beware!!!

its not right is it? Personally I feel that breakdown cover is entirely separate from 'Accident" cover and should be treated as such- what they are saying, and please correct me if I am wrong< is that any breakdown claim will be recorded as an "ordinary" claim, and will affect ALL of your motor insurance- including your car etc.

Shan't be going with them anymore when my Insurance expires.

That is exactly what they are saying and to give Allstyles there dues he said they are trying to get them to change it

It actually did me a favour as ive got personal cover from the AA on my car which I didnt realise covers me on the scooters so saved me some money

I`m with Equity Red Star (I think - need to check) through Carole Nash so will look into this.

out of interest what was the deduction on the premium when you declined the breakdown cover ?

I have used the breakdown twice in around 10 yrs and never declared it but ive been with carol nash through that whole period so they knew. its never affected the premiums.

isn't classic bike insurance a little different to "ordinary" insurance - eg no claims discount doesn`t exist.

My renewals just come thru and I'll be phoning them to check this out. I do know that you don't qualify for no claims bonus on classic insurance with them. I think you will find that the majority of bike insurance comes thru Equity Red Star no matter which broker you use. If anyone can recommend another insurer that doesn't penalise for breakdown recovery, please post.

Carole Nash, although you're limited to the amount of breakdowns in each year.

HxPaul - it was me who mentioned classic bike insurance in the post above yours - hope that helps with your confusion. ;)

The reference was made as most of us are on classic bike insurance and like classic cars there can be some differences and benefit. My breakdown cover on my classic car is through the insurance but it does not have any effect on policy if a claim is made. I've used it once with no increase in premium. Given the way insurance info is globally available every company knows if you have made any sort of claim against a policy.

The reduction on my classic policy which covers my two scooters was around £40 for removing the breakdown cover

They have changed me to another company so I was told wednesday so when the paperwork comes through i will let you know who they are
