Advice on fitting new fuel tap needed

I have tried to fit a new fuel tap after my old one started leaking. Unfortunately I have broken the nut that you have to tighten up. I am wondering if there is anything that I can use to make sure the seal around the screw on part is sealed so I don't have to tighten it so tight that I break it again!

Think you might be doing it wrong as you don't have to tighten it very tight...there is a nack to doing it as I discovered at the weekend...

Probably not... ....but you should be able to hand tighten it and adjust so that the petrol tap lever sits behind the carb and then tighten with half a turn, trial and error...good luck..

remembering that it is a left hand thread and that the nut should engage on the tank AND the tap at the same point. The nut will only fit one way.
