Lambretta Cutting out ?

Guys, just thought I would float this one..................rebuilt lammy engine on a mate's scoot, runs and starts fine but on occasion it has just cut out, almost as though someone has turned the key off on the ignition. He says he hears a kinda tingling sound just before it cuts out. Its a standard steel barrel 175 running a 'Jetex'

Does this sound like a heat seize (wouldn't have thought so as he said it's not locking up on the back wheel or he has to pull the clutch in). Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Not much to go on Strummer, does it start again once he's stopped? You could:
Check the readings on the green and red from the stator
Fuel flow into the carb.
Check that the tank breather isn't blocked.
Try disconnecting the kill switch

maybe he has Tinnitus :D or maybe be the LT coil or the Pick up, tends to happen once it`s warmed up

The "tingling" noise could well be pinking/preignition caused by the loss of fuel flow - effectively causing the engine to run lean for a few seconds before the fuel supply is completely lost. So perhaps start with checking the fuel tap flow, fuel cap breather, carb filter and the float needle first.

The fact you've put jetex as "jetex" indicates no one has bothered to rejet after building?

Pinching the fuel pipe against the top of the flywheel cover when off the stand and with him sitting on it?

Thanks. Colin yes it starts immediately after pulling over and him kicking it over again and then all fine again. Timing was set to 19 degrees BTDC (as Sticky's book suggests)........, does sound (as he describes pinking might be occurring). A few mates in the past have had issues with the Jetex carbs which we thought might be a problem.......and when slammed on delortos found to be ok again. Thanks ALL for suggestions will try each one and see. Cheers.
